The 'techie' bit!

Since this site is new and has been created from scratch, I thought it would be best to design it using the most up to date techniques that were practical, so I decided to use XHTML 1.0 Strict as the DOCTYPE and have used CSS for design and layout. I have also tried to keep 'CSS hacks' and 'browser sniffing' scripting to a minimum, as I feel that such practices are only of a short-term gain and stifle the progression to more standards based markup.

Wouldn't it be great if all browsers behaved the same?

When I was starting to create this site I soon realised that I was going to have to make a decision as to which version of Internet Explorer that the site would work with as intended. (As any proficient web designer will know, they all don't behave equally!) After looking loosely at various browser usage statistics, taking into consideration each different versions age and how well they support CSS and W3C standards; I thought I'd start with IE version 6, which at the moment is the oldest browser that is still in widespread use.

I have successfully tested the site on the following web browsers and platforms:
  • Internet Explorer 6, 7 and Firefox on Windows XP
  • Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Camino on Mac OS X

Personally, I think IE 5.x is a bit 'long in the tooth' and its popularity is heading in only one direction...down. So although this site will probably work OK in older browsers, I haven't tested it fully in them.

If your computer & OS is supported, why not bring your web browsing experience into the 21st century and tryout Get Firefox ?
